Tripo P2.0 generates quad meshes natively, up to 25,000 faces

Tripo AI released Tripo P2.0 on October 5, 2026, which the company calls the first AI 3D model to generate quad meshes natively rather than triangles. It succeeds Tripo Smart Mesh P1.0 and follows a P2.0 Preview from August; the full release adds multi-version generation from a single prompt and a Mesh Edit tool for regenerating selected parts of a model without touching the rest.

The problem P2.0 targets is specific: most AI 3D generators output triangle meshes, which look fine on screen but don’t deform predictably when rigged for animation. Game and film pipelines are built around quad topology, so studios have had to run AI output through a separate retopology step, which Tripo’s Chief Scientist Dr. Yanpei Cao called “slow, unstable retopology” standing between AI generation and production use.

Spec Value
Triangle mesh output up to 50,000 faces
Quad mesh output up to 25,000 faces
Versions per prompt up to 4, each with different face count
Reference views generated front, back, left, right

P2.0 also includes Smart UV, a one-click unwrap into a 2D layout meant to simplify texturing. Tripo says its models were trained on roughly 50 million 3D assets and that production-ready meshes can generate in as little as two seconds, though that figure isn’t tied specifically to P2.0’s quad output in the source material.

The release lands alongside similar moves elsewhere: Autodesk added the Wonder 3D generative model to its Flow Studio platform, and Meshy.ai connected its generator directly to Formlabs’ Form Now print-on-demand service, handling wall-thickness checks and material compatibility automatically, a step beyond what P2.0 addresses on its own. Pricing and availability for P2.0 were not published in the source.
