3D printing stocks now: where the survivors stand in late 2026
This is the post we keep current. If you want the running story of 3D printing stocks rather than one year at a time, start here.
The short version of 2025 and 2026 so far: the great consolidation happened, and then it started to reverse.
Nano Dimension spent 2024 and early 2025 buying Desktop Metal and Markforged, then spent the following year getting rid of them. Desktop Metal filed for Chapter 11 on 28 July 2025, less than four months after the deal closed. In May 2026 Nano agreed to sell Markforged to Stratasys for 42.5 million dollars in cash, keeping the metal binder-jetting line, with closing expected in the second half of 2026; it had paid about 116 million dollars for Markforged thirteen months earlier. By August 2026 Nano had suspended its full-year guidance, sold its AME and Fabrica product lines and agreed to end its headquarters lease at the close of the year, while still holding 433.3 million dollars in cash, deposits and securities. The buyer of 2024 is now a seller with a large cash pile and a strategic review.
Follow Markforged’s path: public on its own in 2021, bought by Nano in 2025, heading into Stratasys in 2026. Three owners in five years, each transaction at a lower price than the last.
The quieter story is who won by not playing. Xometry, which owns no printers and runs a marketplace matching buyers to outside shops, finished 2025 as the sector’s strongest performer, up close to half its value on the year, and kept going. Revenue grew 25.9 percent in 2025 to 686.6 million dollars and 41 percent in the second quarter of 2026, when it raised its full-year growth forecast to 33 to 34 percent. Protolabs, which runs its own factories, posted record revenue in 2025 and again in the second quarter of 2026. The machine makers did worse. Stratasys revenue fell to 551.1 million dollars in 2025 with a 104.3 million net loss, and 3D Systems reported a 2025 profit only because it sold its Geomagic software business.
Some names came back or arrived. Velo3D, pushed off the NYSE in September 2024, returned to Nasdaq as VELO on 19 August 2025 after its noteholder took 95 percent of the equity in a debt swap; it guides to 60 to 70 million dollars of revenue for 2026 after 46 million in 2025. Creality, the Shenzhen maker of consumer printers, listed in Hong Kong on 29 May 2026 at 18.80 Hong Kong dollars a share and three months later reported a first-half loss of 59.1 million yuan as margins fell on cheaper new models.
One left. BigRep, the Berlin maker of large-format printers, announced on 29 June 2026 that it would sell its operating company to existing shareholders and delist from Frankfurt, 23 months after listing.
Who is left standing as public, tradeable names: Stratasys, 3D Systems, Nano Dimension, Velo3D, Creality, Materialise, Xometry, Proto Labs, Redwire and Steakholder Foods. Each has its own page with a live chart and a dated history, linked from our stocks page. Private companies such as EOS and UnionTech, and delisted ones such as BigRep, are on the companies page. The companies that did not make it, Desktop Metal, Markforged, voxeljet and BigRep among them, are the subject of the year-by-year history, starting with the 2022 crash.
