AML3D wins A$2.2 million ARCEMY X order from Northrop Grumman

AML3D has landed an order worth about A$2.2 million ($1.54m) from Northrop Grumman Marine Systems for a large-scale ARCEMY X metal additive system, its first order from the U.S. Navy prime contractor. Northrop Grumman picked the system through a competitive tender to support submarine industrial base manufacturing, and the deal includes a two-year maintenance and services package.

Northrop Grumman supplies the Navy with components for propulsion, power generation and missile launch systems. The ARCEMY X runs on AML3D’s patented Wire Additive Manufacturing process, a combination of welding science, robotics, materials engineering and in-house software.

AML3D now holds contracts covering 17 ARCEMY systems in the U.S., with other prime contractors including Newport News Shipbuilding, Austal USA, Cogitic and Laser Welding Solutions. Northrop Grumman’s Rob Denney called AML3D “the first Australian supplier we’ve engaged for submarine industrial base manufacturing.” CEO Sean Ebert said the deal “further validates ARCEMY as a technology solution for critical US Navy supply-chain requirements.”
