Formlabs Form 4 and Form 4L cost 6.6x to 18x what Creality's Halot-Mage does, depending which Formlabs bundle you compare

The Form 4 Basic Package is priced at $2,625 and includes the printer, tank, platform and finish kit, with access to Formlabs’ software and dashboard, according to Formlabs’ own comparison page. Step up to the Complete package and the price becomes $5,749, which adds Formlabs’ automated post-processing tools (Form Wash, Form Cure and a resin pump) and a service plan on top of the same printer. Both figures come from Formlabs’ current Form 4 vs. Bambu Lab X1 comparison page, and MatterHackers lists the Basic package at the same $2,625.

Creality’s HALOT-MAGE, the company’s base 8K mono-LCD resin printer, currently lists at $399 on Creality’s own product page, printer only, no wash or cure station bundled in. Set that against the Form 4 Basic Package and the multiple is $2,625 / $399, about 6.6x. Set it against the Form 4L Basic Package, at $7,125, and the multiple is $7,125 / $399, about 18x. Those are the two ends of the headline range, and they depend on picking the Basic tier on the Formlabs side; nothing in between is a real, sourced data point, it’s just what falls out of comparing different tiers.

Bambu Lab does not sell a resin printer, so this comparison has only two real sides. There is no MSRP to quote because there is no product. A Fabbaloo report describes the company pursuing an inkjet-based colour photopolymer process, with no dated product page and no preorder. Two other outlets covered the same report without adding a price. Fabbaloo itself didn’t attach a number to Bambu Lab’s plans either, so there’s no figure here worth repeating, confirmed or otherwise. This is a two-way comparison, Formlabs against Creality’s Halot line, with Bambu Lab noted because it has nothing to sell yet.

What Formlabs actually charges

The Form 4L follows the same tiered structure as the Form 4, at roughly 3x the money. Formlabs’ own Form 4L vs. Phrozen comparison page puts the Basic package starting price at $7,125 and the Complete package at $19,769, with the Complete tier adding the same class of post-processing hardware and service coverage. MatterHackers’ listing for the Form 4L Basic Package matches the $7,125 figure. The gap between those two tiers, $19,769 minus $7,125, is $12,644 for the wash station, cure station, resin pump and service plan; that’s the actual cost of “everything Complete adds,” not a guess.

Those aren’t the only numbers attached to the Form 4L, though. When Formlabs announced the Form 4L on October 15, 2024, its own press release quoted a single price: Form 4L at $9,999. Tom’s Hardware, reviewing the machine on May 20, 2025, cited a starting price tag of $8,904 for a complete-enough bundle. Hawkridge Systems, a US reseller, listed the Form 4L at $19,999 as of November 21, 2024, essentially matching today’s Complete package price. We could not find a bundle-contents breakdown for either the $9,999 launch price or the $8,904 review figure, in Formlabs’ press release, the Tom’s Hardware review, or anywhere else we checked. So four numbers exist for what Formlabs calls the same machine, and we can only confirm what’s inside two of them (today’s $7,125 Basic and $19,769 Complete packages).

Both the Form 4 Basic and Form 4L Basic packages include a tank, platform and finish kit, not a bare printer, so this per-litre math compares bundle to bundle, not printer to printer. The Form 4’s build volume is 200 x 125 x 210 mm, which is 5.25 litres. At $2,625 that’s $500 per litre for the Basic package; at $5,749, the Complete package works out to $1,094 per litre. The Form 4L’s build volume is 355 x 200 x 350 mm, 24.2 litres, by Formlabs’ own spec sheet. At $7,125 that works out to $294 per litre, cheaper per litre of build chamber than the smaller machine’s Basic package, and $816 per litre once you buy the Complete package at $19,769.

We did not find a UK or EU list price on Formlabs’ own regional stores, only a UK reseller (Additive-X) carrying the Form 4L Complete package without a published headline figure, and we found no procurement, tender or contract-award notice anywhere for a Form 4 or Form 4L purchase by a university, agency or public lab. We also found no used Form 4 or Form 4L listings on the secondary market.

Creality’s Halot line

The HALOT-MAGE PRO, Creality’s step-up sibling to the base Halot-Mage, launched at $599 when Creality announced the series on April 28, 2023. A review published on June 1, 2023, about five weeks later, cited retail at $499, a $100 drop between the launch price and one reviewer’s cited retail price, though it’s unclear whether Creality itself cut MSRP or a retailer discounted independently. By September 21, 2024, Amazon was running a 40%-off promotion that took the Halot-Mage Pro from a $419 list price down to $251.40, a deal price roughly 42% of the original $599 launch MSRP (60% of the interim $419 list price).

Using the HALOT-MAGE PRO’s published build volume of 228 x 128 x 230 mm (6.71 litres, per Aniwaa’s spec listing), that $599 launch price is $89 per litre for the printer alone, no wash or cure station included. The June 2023 retail price of $499 is $74 per litre. The September 2024 Amazon deal price is $37 per litre.

Creality’s current storefront (store.creality.com, checked for this piece) shows the HALOT-MAGE S at $399, down from a $489 list price, the entry-level HALOT R6 at $139 (sold out at the time we checked), and a newer Halot X1 Neo model at $239. None of these product pages publishes a build volume, so among Creality printers the per-litre math covers only the HALOT-MAGE PRO.

Regionally, a German reseller on eBay.de lists a new (not used) HALOT-MAGE unit at €234.89 including VAT, with free shipping. That’s a single live listing, not a stable manufacturer price. We did not track down the applicable VAT rate for that listing or convert it to dollars, since neither the exchange rate nor the tax rate is something we have a sourced figure for; treat it as a rough regional data point only.

The Form 4L Basic package against the bare Halot-Mage is 18x, and that’s the only multiplier here that names its own bundle on both sides. A buyer comparing quotes today will run into the $7,125 Basic and $19,769 Complete figures on Formlabs.com; the $9,999, $8,904 and $19,999 numbers only turn up if you go looking at press coverage and reseller pages from late 2024 and mid-2025.
