Formlabs opened orders today for the Form Studio 1, a $699 MSLA resin printer the company calls its “most affordable professional resin 3D printer” and the first in its category certified UL GREENGUARD Gold for indoor air quality. Shipping starts November 16, 2026.
The certification carries a condition: it only applies when the printer runs Formlabs’ own Alpha Resins with the optional VOC Extractor attachment. Under that configuration, Formlabs says total VOC emissions fall below 220 µg/m³ per UL 2819. Without the extractor, the machine still has a sealed chamber and low-odor resins, which the company says is enough to skip separate ventilation setups, but that’s a softer claim than the certified figure.
The hardware specs:
| Spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Price | $699 (plus Alpha Resins from $29/L) |
| Build volume | 20.0 × 12.5 × 23.5 cm, 5.9 L |
| Light engine | 28 LEDs, lens array, 6 mW/cm² |
| Pixel size | 35 µm with anti-aliasing |
| Print speed | up to 130 mm/hr general resins, 10-20 mm/hr functional resins |
| Accuracy | ±0.03% to ±0.5% depending on feature size, floor of ±0.08 mm |
| Claimed success rate | 98% (Formlabs doesn’t disclose the test conditions behind this number) |
| Shipping | November 16, 2026 |
Six Alpha Resins launch alongside it (Grey, White, Black, Clear, Model, Fast), all rated for ISO 10993 long-term skin contact after post-processing. A Founder’s Edition offers aqua, teal and violet colorways through November 30 or while stock lasts.
The launch follows months of speculation, fed by Formlabs recruiting FDM engineers and CEO Max Lobovsky’s AMUG remarks about expanding beyond “two” manufacturing processes, that the company might enter filament printing. A TCT Shenzhen teaser headline referencing “photopolymerization” four days before launch pointed the other way, correctly, toward a cheaper resin machine rather than FFF.
