Titomic wins $5 million USAF cold spray contract as VulcanForms teams with Specter Aerospace on hypersonics
Titomic USA was awarded a $5 million (AU$6.9 million) contract by the U.S. Air Force to supply, integrate and commission a Titomic Kinetic Fusion cold spray system at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, the company announced. The system is built around Titomic’s TKF 1000 high-pressure cold spray platform and is due for delivery in Q3 2027.

Tinker is described as the largest U.S. Air Force MRO facility in the country. The turnkey system covers depot-level work: corrosion and wear protection, component repair, hybrid manufacturing, dimensional restoration and multimaterial deposition, with robotic automation, process monitoring and real-time quality verification built in. CEO Jim Simpson called it “more than a machine,” framing the deal as an entry into the USAF’s MRO capability suite rather than a one-off sale.
Separately, VulcanForms and defense startup Specter Aerospace announced a partnership to manufacture airbreathing hypersonic weapons at scale, citing demand from Congress, the Department of War and mission partners. Specter has already used VulcanForms’ metal 3D printing for hypersonic vehicle development; the companies now plan a “first-of-its-kind” manufacturing capacity combining VulcanForms’ high-volume additive manufacturing with Specter’s work building hypersonic missiles for the DoW. They’re conducting a nationwide site evaluation for a future production facility covering munitions, cruise missiles and interceptors, VulcanForms EVP Matthew Rose said.
Neither announcement discloses a contract value for the VulcanForms-Specter partnership, a timeline for the site selection, or production volume targets for the planned facility.
